SUMMER
IS HERE!! Summer time is beach time in Jeffreys Bay. Thousands of holidaymakers will be joining locals on the beach and in the waves during December and January. Sun filled days, sun tan lotion, boardshorts and bikini’s will be the in thing for the next two months. Main beach will become the focal point of the town.
It is an incredible sight to see a normally empty beach packed to
capacity with people enjoying their holidays.
The Main beach is one of the safest swimming beaches in the world.
There are no major rip currents, no rocks to injure unsuspecting
bathers and good bodysurfing waves all year round.
During December, lifesavers are on duty every day and a surf school
can teach one how to ride the waves and discover why surfing is known as
the sport of kings. Beach activities for the youngsters are getting more diverse
season by season. Putt putt,
the supertube slide, the fun fair, beach games like capture the flag,
treasure hunts, beach soccer and cricket will all be available to
entertain the young visitors to town this December. Should a sun worshiper wish to escape the maddening crowd, the
Kabeljous or Aston Bay beaches are good alternatives. Swimmers need to
take precautions, particularly at the Aston/Paradise beach, which is
notorious for its unpredictable rip currents.

Once the beach has become too much, a hike through one of the nature
reserves around the time might be the call.
The Noorsekloof Reserve runs through the middle of Wavecrest and is
3 km long. Many bird specie
live in the kloof and hikers may even spot one of the few remaining buck. The penguin rehabilitation centre at the entrance of the Seeikoei
Reserve is well worth a visit. There
are few opportunities available to feed wild penguins and then sample the
beauty of the Seeikoei River. Shell collecting is a popular pastime in J’Bay. Collectors from
all over the world make the pilgrimage to Jeffreys Bay to add to their
collection. Although winter
is the best time to find shells, one can walk along the beach at any time
and become mesmerised by the numerous different shells that lie strewn
along the seashore. A visit
to the shell museum will be informative for aspirant shell collectors. We wish all visitors and locals a blessed holiday season and may
your dreams become reality.
