20 Pepper Street - The Restaurant
Situated in the basement of
‘African Perfection' guest house is a small restaurant and sushi bar
called ‘twenty pepper street' owned by ‘singing cook' Steve Walsh. The
‘singing cook' is so named because for twenty odd years 0f Steve's life,
he made a living as a singer and musician. With music in South Africa
being so diverse because of the incredible mix of so many different
cultures and influences it's not surprising that the menu at ‘ Twenty
Pepper street ' should reflect the same type of diversity. What the menu
features is a fusion of South –east Asian, South American and European
cooking as well as the inevitable South African west coast seafood
touch. As one knows, no matter what style of food one cooks, knowledge
and a whole lot of caring are always the main ingredients, and at Twenty
Pepper street you will get a wholesome amount of both.
Breakfast features a full
continental spread with cereals, cheese and cold meats, toast and rolls
and a full English serving of bacon, eggs, sausage, mushrooms and tomato
as well as a stylish smoked salmon scramble and a Mediterranean omelette
with grilled veg, sundried tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. For something
really different try the energising miso soup and noodles if you're
planning a few hours surfing one of the best surf breaks in the world, ‘Supertubes.'
For lunch-time we feature some
delicious salads like our chunky-cut Greek with feta and olives or our
smoked salmon salad with cottage cheese and sliced gherkin, a cheese
platter with four varieties of cheese, preserved fig and jalapeno chilli
with salad and for the ‘hungry meaties' a 200gram burger with all the
trimmings. Japanese noodle dishes are also very popular for lunch.
Dinner-time sees the
introduction of sushi to the menu with all the favourites like
California rolls, Nigiri sushi and sashimi featuring prominently. Dinner
is also the time to enjoy the fruits of our local seas with the freshest
of fish, mussels and griddled calamari steak strips cooked with fresh
garlic, lemon juice and ginger. Once again, for those preferring some
meat, the very best of beef fillet steak is available with a wonderful
pepper or mushroom sauce. The mouth-watering Thai curry and the Japanese
noodle dishes also go a long way to making a menu decision both
difficult and delicious in anticipation. Just for the record, our crème
brule is legendary.
We hope you enjoy your stay in
South Africa and at the ‘African Perfection' guest house and look
forward to having you dining at our table. Thank you -
Steve Walsh.
